Eng 101 Course Description
Several of you developed course descriptions as part of your pedagogical probe. This assignment formally tasks you with doing so for the first-year course that’s likely furthest from your literary comfort zone.
For the class period immediately following break (March 15), develop a course description for an Eng 101 class. To do so, you need to
- Review Edward White’s distinctions between writing and literature courses.
- Review the general course description for Eng 101.
- Familiarize yourself with the Emory First-Year Writing Program’s outcomes, core activities, and key terms, all of which appear on the first-year writing website.
- Begin to understand the role of portfolios in writing programs/courses.
- Review drafts of Eng 101 course descriptions for 2016-2017 developed under the programmatic rubric outlined above.
- Foreground the writing/making students will be doing in your course.
Post the first draft of your course description to your website and be ready to discuss your rhetorical choices in class.
