Discussion Leadership

We’ll have one or more discussion leaders for each reading. You will be responsible for

  • Performing a nonverbal skit that makes some aspect (e.g., a concept, a process, a contextualizing scenario) of the reading salient.
  • Developing one visual that helps us access and think about the reading in a way that linear text alone might not support.
  • Complementing the skit and visual with a brief (fewer than 500 words) summary of the reading that does not include direct quotation from the text.
  • Forwarding one research or pedagogical application you see for the reading (fewer than 250 words).
  • Developing two or three questions designed to get us talking about the article or chapter.
  • Directing our conversation in class via summary and discussion questions.

The texts (e.g., visual, summary, discussion questions) associated with your leadership need to be made available to the class via your website and should be posted by the time class meets on the day you are leading discussion. If you are working with partners, the discussion materials should be posted on each person’s website.
